Good Ass Job

Chance The Rapper is a independent artist from Chicago, Illinois. Chance began making music in his High School’s library, and created his first tape “10 Day.” Chance further pursued music after this tape until reaching present day superstar status. Chance’s claim to fame was his independence and doing all his business in-house. However, after reaching notoriety in the music industry, his focus seemed to shift elsewhere. As of late family, friends, and philanthropic efforts has made up his core priorities. Chance The Rapper’s next album needs to reestablish his presence in the Hip Hop scene.

Chance has released 6 projects including collaborations but not including 5 Day. Acid Rap and Coloring Book are both the stand outs amongst all of his discography. Acid Rap which was his personal coming out party, and Coloring Book which was his debut album. Around 2016, Chance was unavoidable; you could not be on any social media, or go to a station not playing at least one of his features striking gold. From his quirky memorable guest verse on Action Bronson’s Baby Blue, to Ye’s TLOP. Not to mention him making the world wait for the album, as Kanye allowed Chance to work on his album further. Once it released, Chance delivered a phenomenal verse stealing the show on the opening track of the album. This all occurred only 3 months before Chance released his debut album in May of 2016. The interest he generated transitioned smoothly into his album release, where he would undoubtedly live up to the hype, or be lost in the shuffle. Coloring Book delivered from the commercial outlook, while still providing the meat and potatoes with well thought-out verses and subject matter. As of right now it has been 2 years since we heard a Chance album. Not all of his “juice” has been lost, however I do believe only his core fan group are actively looking for his features, singles, and most important a album. The focus on the Hip Hop scene has redirected to Cardi, Drake, Travis, Cole, and of course the extensive array of gimmicks. Chance The Rapper’s next album needs to reestablish his presence in the Hip Hop scene. “Good Ass Job” could do just that for Chance. “Good Ass Job” is a rumored album being worked on by Chance and Kanye. As of late Ye’ has been busy with Politics, and of course with music as he’s been working with various artist this year collaborating for their album. From “Ye” to “K.T.S.E” Kanye displayed where he is at sonically as he produced the beats and rapped on some of his collaborators albums. In a recent interview with Tim Westwood, Chance goes over the concept of the album. He says he is in charge of the album, and that the album is sonically about remembering and learning. Kanye and Chance are collectively aiming to “build off of (College) Dropout, Late Registration, and Graduation.” Ultimately “creating something that's the best version of all of those things” is his goal with this joint album. Sounds like Kanye will contribute with some bars, chopped soul beats, but will be leaving Chance to steer the course. Exactly what I want to hear when this album releases. When I think of Common’s album “Be,” I know that a joint album with Ye can definitely potentially produce a classic. So long as Chance decides to put some bars together, use his wit, and his star power, it will be just what the doctor ordered. However is this too little too late, or is the timing just right? In 2016 or even 2017 it is safe to say this album may have been more sought after as they both had huge moments that year. For now I wait patiently impatient.
